Zimtsterne

Soooooo... Christmas ! You know the song that says "...its the most wonderful time of the year..." ? I think that its the most stressful time of the year! But there is also a good side to it because its the only time of the year that I can make my favorite cookies "Zimtsterne" or in English Cinnamon stars.

  • 3 egg white
  • 300 g of powdered sugar (?)
  • 1 small packet of vanilla sugar
  • 350 g of ground almonds ( you can get them in packs usually)
  • 1 normal sized spoon of ground cinnamon

1. Put your egg whites in a bowl, fetch your hand mixer, put it on high speed and whip the whole thing until its a smooth, somewhat stiff cream. Start adding the powdered sugar slowly to the cream. When its all done set aside 1/3 of the whole mass, because you will need it later on.

2. Add vanilla sugar, cinnamon and half of the almonds to the rest of the cream. Sorta mix the whole thing and then add the rest of the almonds. Its best if you do it with your hands. At the end you should have a dough that is a little bit sticky.

3.Preheat your oven up to130 °C. Spread some more almonds on a working surface
and roll out your dough on it. The dough should be 1 cm thick.
You also might want to prepare some backing sheets
Just take a star shaped cutter and cut stars out, then put them on
the backing sheet. Then smearthe whipped cream on the stars.

4. Bake the stars for about 30 min. The stars should be
a little soft on the bottom as you take them out.
Let them cool down a little before you devour them :)

Happy Hanukkah!
